Some people have genetic predisposition to high cholesterol level. They have to reduce it with statin drugs since childhood. This therapy reduces the risk of ischemic heart disease.
The scientists decided to evaluate the effectiveness of this approach by examining more than 200 children with hypercholesterolemia. They all took the medicine from 8 to 18 years. At 30 years of age in a group of young people who took statins since childhood, the ability to withstand ischemia was 100%, their parents – 93%.
This means that the treatment started in childhood can actually reduce the risk of premature death. During 10 years of observation a single case of complaints about the state of the cardiovascular system has not been mentioned if a person took statins. However, it is known that statins cause side effects on gastro-intestinal tract and liver.
